Bulldogs are DuKane Conference Champions!

St. Charles North Northstar Invite

Saturday was a great day for the Bulldogs at LeRoy Oakes! The varsity squad ran first and set the tone for the day. We had several newcomers running in the varsity lineup for the first time, and they did a great job taking advantage of the opportunity! The Bulldogs placed fourth as a team, led by Sasha Semanision in 11th place. Ali Thomas dropped a big time personal best to break 20 minutes for the first time and place 15th. Celia Schifferer and Taylor Schaffer also broke 20 minutes for the first time in placing 25th and 27th respectively. Congrats to freshmen Nora Koziol and Ellie Swanson for running lifetime bests in the varsity race!

The frosh/soph team ran well and placed 5th, despite not having some of their normal runners in the lineup! Rachel Agro led the team in 21st place to earn individual recognition. Evelyn Pine (32), Maddyn Wagenknecht (34) and Lindsay Fehrenbacher (38) packed it up to score valuable points for the team. Special shout out to Gianna Cesarone, who ran a 25 second personal best and Ella Druwe, who ran under 25 minutes for the first time!

Brooke Yager and Genevieve Canal were our lone representatives in the open race. Brooke ran a lifetime best and 28 second PR to place 11th. Genevieve ran tough and completed the course in her second fastest time of the season!

Bartlett Flyin' Hawk Invitational

Picture
Bartlett was once again a team favorite, as almost every girl ran a season best or lifetime best. The combination of a fast course and finally some cool weather made for a great day at Bartlett!!

Our frosh/soph team was 5th overall and led by Ellie Swanson in 4th place. Congrats Ellie on breaking 22 minutes for the first time! Rachel Agro also had a strong run in 16th place for the bulldogs. Lindsay Fehrenbacher, Emma Wecker, Gianna Cesarone, Kyla Leman and Leah Castellanos all ran lifetime bests for 3 miles today! Way to go ladies!!

The varsity group went three for three, as each girl ran a season best! Sasha Semanision (13th) Celia Schifferer (30th) and Nora Koziol (32nd) took on the challenge of some strong competition and ran very well. Congrats to Celia and Nora on your first varsity cross country race!

In the open race, the bulldogs ran tough up front and placed 5th as a team. Morgan Blazier (4th) and Brooke Yager (9th) ran great races to put themselves in the top ten individually. Morgan ran right at her lifetime best, and Brooke smashed her lifetime best, going under 22 minutes for the first time! Also contributing to the team scoring with season best runs were Kit Ball, Gaby Moore, and Genevieve Canal. Keep up the good work!

Roy Griak Invitational

The Bulldogs placed 14th out of 53 teams in the ultra competitive gold division of the Roy Griak Invitational. Hampered by a slow start (31st place as a team at the mile) the girls did a nice job working their way through the field and moving up at each checkpoint. This race tested their ability to stay calm and navigate hundreds of runners on the course. The senior trio of Lili Bednarek (65th), Brook Silbernagel (87th) and Ava Thomas (98th) led the Bulldogs.

Overall, we had four newcomers gain valuable experience running in a race of this magnitude for the first time. Out of the six returning Griak veterans, five ran significantly faster than they did in this race last year. These are great things to build from, and at the end of the day,  there were many lessons were learned. The girls are eager to step back on the course at race again in the coming weeks.

Minooka Flight Invitational

This past weekend the Bulldogs traveled to Minooka to run in their flighted invite. This meet is unique because it places the #1 runner from each team against each other in flight 1, each teams #2 runners race against each other in flight 2, and so on. Out of the 7 varsity flights, Batavia had 3 individual medalists! Congratulations to Taylor Schaffer for placing 5th in the 7th flight, Sasha Semanision for placing 4th in the 6th flight, and Olivia Gebhardt for placing 9th in the championship flight!

The frosh/soph and open teams ran in a more traditional race, where everyone raced together. The frosh/soph team placed 6th and was led by Nora Koziol's 15th place finish. In the open race, juniors Celia Schifferer and Morgan Blazier placed 7th and 22nd to earn some individual hardware!

There is no doubt about it - this meet and course challenges our team in many ways. For some of you, you had to push through the physical elements on the course. For others, you had to push through a mental block that was challenging you. Either way, I know that our team learned a lot about themselves and is stronger for it. Keep your head up and keep working hard. Go Bulldogs!

First To The Finish

What a great day for the Bulldogs in Peoria! The varsity team placed 2nd out of 32 teams led by seniors Lili Bednarek (15th), Brooke Silbernagel (22nd) and Ava Thomas (23rd). Maddie Cassidy (27th) and Chloe Kammes (42nd) were once again in the top 5 scoring. Behind our top five was strong pack running by Olivia Gebhardt, Alli Olson, Madison Wnek and Sasha Semanision. All were within 30 seconds of our #5 and have the ability to step up into that role on any given race.

The open team also ran a strong race placing 3rd overall out of 43 teams! Congrats to Ali Thomas (5th) and Taylor Schaffer (9th) for running in the top 10. Celia Shifferer (18th), Nora Koziol (23rd) and Morgan Blazier (49th) also ran well earning individual medals by placing in the top 50 (out of almost 600 runners). Special shout out to Ellie Swanson and Evelyn Pine on running big PR's for 3 miles! Another shout out to all the girls in the open race who were racing three miles for the first time this season. What a great starting point, and we look forward to watching your improvement over the three mile distance in the weeks to come!

Seniors Lili Bednarek and Brooke Silbernagel led the team with a 20th and 25th place individual finishes. Close behind were Maddie Cassidy and Ava Thomas in 35th and 39th place. Brooke Yager also earned an individual medal in the open race by finishing in 22nd place. Even though the Frosh/Soph team did not earn any individual medals in this race, each athlete ran tough and improved from the week before. Keep up the good work!

Next week the team travels to Peoria to race on the historic Detweiler Park course. This is a great opportunity for the entire team to race on the state meet course!

Kane County Meet

Picture
Congrats to the Bulldogs on winning the Kane County Meet! The Varsity team put all five scoring runners in the top 11 to take a three point victory over conference rivals St. Charles East. Varsity medalists include Lili Bednarek (4th), Ava Thomas (6th), Brooke Silbernagel (7th), Maddie Cassidy (10th), Olivia Gebhardt (11th), Chloe Kammes (15th), Alli Olson (18th) and Madison Wnek (20th).

While we are excited to bring back several veteran racers from last year's 11th place state team, it was nice to see some newcomers mix it up with the pack! Congrats to Maddie C, Chloe and Ali T. on your first varsity race! This race was also a celebration for two juniors, Celia and Brooke Y. as they finally found their was back to the cross country course. These ladies have worked so hard and overcome so many obstacles to get healthy and back to racing. Well done ladies!

The Frosh/Soph team placed fourth overall and was led by individual champion Nora Koziol! Not only was this Nora's first high school race, it was also her first time racing 3 miles. She ran with confidence from the front and won the whole thing. Congratulations Nora! Also placing in the Frosh/Soph race was Ellie Swanson (14th) and Rachel Agro (18th). This group should only get better and better as the season progresses. Keep working hard and finding ways to test your limits!

Our Open team had a tough task being the first group out on the course, but persevered to a fourth place team finish. The team
had a great individual run by veteran Morgan Blazier in 6th. Rookie Ruby Fusek earned her first high school award in 20th place. This race group had several newcomers on the roster competing in their very first high school invite. Just like our Frosh/Soph team, this group will be fun to watch improve week after week!
